Its purpose is to temporarily
(until you click a link and it's replaced)
let you focus on the other page.
  
If you're viewing on a small screen, so
you want to make the other page larger
by putting it into its own full-width window,
the top-right corner of that page probably
has a link that lets you open only that page.
